While everyone seems to be pointing to Al Gore’s new film “The Inconvenient Truth” as the be-all end-all about global warming, here’s what real scientists have to say:

Scientists respond to Gore’s warnings of climate catastrophe

Thank heavens this man did not become a US President!

Apparently we have decided to throw the constitution of the United States of America right out the window. I’ll be polishing my gun as I slowly watch our rights slip away…

High court OKs personal property seizures

The Pope is now being fed through a feeding tube. I’ll give it a few days before the courts order it removed. (Ok, that was just mean)

So now my wife’s right to purchase birth control pills (after the current pregnancy of course) is going to be determined by the Pharmacists’ personal moral beliefs?

What the hell is wrong with these people? Will I be be refused condoms next? After all, we’ll need some means to control pregnancy until we are ready for the next child. How moral is it to overpopulate the world?

The Maximum leader has a piece that I think sums things up nicely: More On Terri Schiavo’s Case.

Mar 23

I’ve kept pretty quiet on this subject for some time, but now that it has hit the national news big time I guess I have to give some opinion. I am referring to the Terri Schiavo case.

I see two sides, one with rather evil intentions, and one with wishful thinking. The evil side is the husband. At this point, based on the evidence it is clear that his only concern is to get his hands on the money won in the previous law suit based on the initial cause of Terri’s condition. It was quite a bit of money and her husband had agreed, in court, to use that money to get her help. Instead he just shoved her in a hospice and even refused to have infections treated. He then got a new girlfriend. If it isn’t obvious that he just wanted her to die then you would have to be pretty stupid.

On the other side, the parents want to gain custody of her so they can use the settlement money for her therapy. These are good intentions, but I think it is wishful thinking. I can’t see how Terri will ever recover enough to have a meaningful life. But, since Terri left no indication of how she would want to handle such a situation, what choices are made should be between Terri, her parents, and God.

What I can’t understand is why a judge can’t see through the husband’s disgusting behaviour and simply award custody to the parents, along with the settlement money. This is setting a dangerous legal precedent that could allow other husbands to find similar ways to kill their wives, and last time I checked we don’t live in the middle east. And this has spent way to many tax dollars going through the courts when the decision seems like it would be so obvious. If the parents have custody the financial responsibility falls on them, not the tax payers.

As for Terri, what happened to her is very sad. I’m not sure she can recover from her condition. Personally, if such a thing ever happens to me, please kill me. I think we treat our pets better.

As if it isn’t embarrassing enough to live and work here in Buffalo, we get this kind of stupid shit happening: City forgets to renew domain name.

And of course we had to get Farked because of it.

Mad

I woke up mad this morning. Just like several mornings previous. I can’t help it. It’s because I actually care; because I think elected officials should care. Government doesn’t seem to think about the consequences of its actions until the shit finally hits the fan. If your not from the Buffalo, NY area you’re probably wondering what I’m talking about. Well, for those who aren’t living with it everyday I’m referring to the current Erie County Budget Crisis.

What I can’t seem to figure out is how a bunch of people who should have a modicum of intelligence can’t add a bunch of numbers together and see that the final outcome is a negative number. I just don’t get how they couldn’t see this coming. Seems very convenient that the announcement of this crisis came after elections.

And so to cover his butt, Joel Giambra decides to blame medicaid and raise our sales tax 1%. Now,to be honest, I’m sure medicaid is one of the many state taxes(and the state has been screwing NY citizens for years) hurting our budget line here, but it can’t be the only problem. Joel’s friends and family plan might be a small piece of the problem too. As well as other overpaid positions.

Some members of the legislature have at least listened to the people and stopped this tax from going through. Sorry Joel, but the LAST thing this area needs is another tax.

But it doesn’t stop there. Now some lawmakers are suggesting that next year they will have to raise property taxes 40%. 40%!!!!!!!! Are you nuts?!?! Don’t we have enough people leaving this area in droves? Raise property taxes that much and even I, someone who’s lived here all his life, will have to consider getting out of this area. Taxes like this are going to end up driving me away from family, which is the only real reason to stay in this town lately.

We entrusted these people with our county, our money, and they have betrayed that trust. That is why I am MAD as hell. It is time for the people to take back what is theirs. Tear down county government and rebuild it. The current leaders need to step down, both legislature and executive branches, and start the whole process of building county government over again. This time making a governing body that fits the needs of a much smaller population. Every member of our current government, and I do mean every, is responsible for this mess, and they need to fall on their swords now. Personally, I think it’s time to dump a truckload of tea on the doorstep of the Edward A. Rath County Office Building just to show how disgusted we the people are. But unfortunately I think most people are too weak to take such a stand. Gone are the Thomas Jeffersons of our day; Or the Benjamin Franklins.

My friend Kevin is running for president in 2008, so maybe I should run for County Executive. I couldn’t possibly screw it up any worse than the current administration; hell at least I can add a bunch of numbers together and know when it’s time to stop spending money. Maybe I can get the libertarian nomination and be the first libertarian county executive.

I think this letter of apology by Lieutenant General Chuck Pitman, US Marine Corps, Retired hits the target dead on.
