I am one of the many idividuals who has recently switched his phone service from Verizon to Vonage. So far I have been pleased with the service and have been using it for outgoing calls (our phone number is still in process for the transfer from Verizon to Vonage). What’s really graet about Vonage is the price. For $24.99 I get unlimited long distance and local calling; and there is only one federal regulatory fee on the bill in the amount of $1.50! Well, the good news is that it looks like that is going to stay that way for a while. The FCC has announced that it will not allow individual States to place regulatory fees on what it considers to be nothing more than an internet application. I’m sure that in the end this will just be temporary as the Feds figure out how they themselves want to tax VoIP, but I’ll take it for now. It’s much better than paying the roughly $54 that Verizon is charging me each month.
P.S. If anyone out there has cable broadband and wants to ditch their phone company email me and I’ll send you a referral. We both get a free month if you sign up off a referral.
